Vredenburgh Family Crests

Van Vredenburgh Family Crest

This crest was awarded to Johan Willem Vreedenburch. He was ennobled by Royal decree 24 Nov 1816. Johan Willem Vreedenbuch (a descendant of Hugo van Vreedenburch, b. 1525) b. Delft 6 Aug. 1782, died Rijswijk 14 Dec. 1849. He was married to Maria Adriana van der Pot van Groeneveld. The motto underneath the shield is : 'Agro Evellite Spinas'.

Van Vredenburgh Family Crest

This second crest was awarded to another member of the family, Baron Ewoud van Vreedenburch, b. Delft 12 Dec 1779, married 19 Sep 1808 Julia van Zuylen Neyevelt. He was ennobled by Royal decree on 9 Jan 1821. The crest is basically the same except for the side and head markings/figures. The motto is, i.e. 'Ante Omnia Honor'. Unless you are a descendent of the men who were awarded these crests you can't claim them as your own. Too bad!!

The crests and background information was supplied for a nominal fee by Paul van Voorthuijsen of Arnhem, The Netherlands. Be sure to check out his Holl@nd webpage.

The source of these crests is a two volume set of books by J. B. Rietstap "Family Crest Book of the Dutch Nobility, dedicated to His Majesty the King" 1883-1887. Copies of these volumes are in Arnhem City Library.
