OBITUARY: The Hustler, Fri 29 Jun 1917; John B. Conyers was born in TN5 Jul 1838. Came with his parents when a boy to IL, where he grewto manhood following the occupation of a farmer until the Civil War,when he answered the call for volunteers, enlisting in Company B,29th IL Inf. on the 12th of Aug 1862 and served until he washonorably discharged after the close of the war, 6 Nov 1865. He wasunited in marriage in 1866 to Harriet Ann Gandy at Metropolis, IL.About 1871 he came with his family to IA, locating at Moorhead andresiding in that vicinity until 1884 when he moved to his farm nearRiver Sioux. Here he remained until 1897 when he went to OK tohomestead. He spent most of his time in OK and KS until the deathof his wife, 9 Aug 1910, when he returned again to River Sioux,remaining here until his death on 25 Jun 1917, at the age of 78years 11 months and 20 days. He was the father of 11 children, 6 ofwhom survive. They are Mrs. Alice Peasley, Mrs. Nora Bishop, JohnHiram, James Benjamin and Mrs. Elba Spencer all deceased: William M.of Little Sioux, Mrs. Mary Wilson of Capitol Hill, OK, Nrs. NellaNorton, Concordia, KS, Mrs. Linda Robley, Akron, IA, Commodore R. ofRiver Sioux and Mrs. Carrie Henson of Wichita, KS. After his returnto River Sioux he was married the second time 6 Dec 1911 to Mrs.Mary Ettleman, who survives him. Besides his wife and children heleaves 10 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, one brother, JamesConyers of MO and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his loss.The father of a large family, he was always an industrious, hardworking man a good neighbor, always willing and ready to lend ahelping hand. He was a man of rugged physique and knew very littleillness until his health began to fail last Feb. Since then he hasbeen patiently awaiting the Grim Reaper and thus the Angel of Deathsounded the final taps at the close of day last Mon his spiritdeparted to answer in the morning the roll call in another clime. Thefuneral will be held this Thursday at the LDS Church at 2 o'clock.
