John Babcock

Referred to as Captain John Babcock. His wife, Mary Champlin, was acousin, the second child of William and Mary Babcock Champlin. Theylived about two miles east of the Pawcatuk Bridge, Westerly RI, onwhat was in 1903 the Post Road. He helped survey the town lands,served as Tax Assessor, Town Councilman, Town Clerk, Probate Clerk andJustice of the Peace for Westerly at various times. He was Deputy forthe town of Westerly in the General Assembly in eleven different yearsbetween 1695 and 1726. He served as Captain of Militia in eightdifferent years between 1709 and 1723.
